The Farmers Daughter Fibers

Hand Dyed Fibers in The Last Best Place

Wisp Collection

For the past year we have been dreaming of starting collections here at Farmers Daughter Fibers. Our vision of moods, nostalgic atmospheres, and color consume our imagination. We can put that all together but we are missing one key component, design. We want to curate collections that become timeless pieces for makers, that are creative yet simple, and highlight the Farmer’s Daughter Fibers brand.

Call for Submission

Wisp is the idea of the lightest breeze on a hot summer day, a tumbleweed slowing making its way across a desolate landscape, the effervescence of rust, and the notion of aged romance. You can find the mood board here. The collection will include 4 to 6 accessories and 1 to 2 garments.

Yarn: Designs must be made with Farmer’s Fibers Daughter Fibers Yarn, colors will be chosen by us but feel free to add suggestions. For this collection we recommended Foxy Lady, Mighty Mo, Soka’pii, and Oh Dang. However any FDF yarn will do!

Compensation & Terms: Farmer’s Daughter Fibers will not be holding rights for designs for any period of time. We will be creating booklets for the collection with professional photographers and models. Compensation for use of your design in the booklet will be $200 to $400 depending on the complexity of the design. Physical garments will be kept for 1 year and then returned. We will share all photography for you to use.

Due Dates: Submission Dates are due May 22nd & you will hear back by May 29th. Garments & Patterns due by August 31st. Booklets & Patterns will release mid to late October, specific date TBA.

Submission: Submissions should be sent to candice@thefarmersdaughterfibers.com with subject line ‘Wisp Submission’. Submissions should include your inspiration behind the design, photo’s of your sketches and/or swatch (swatch does not necessarily need to be in required yarn). Please send only one pdf document attached to the email.

Helpful Tips:

  • We are taking on all levels of designers for our pattern submission! We want to make sure to give our up and coming designers a voice. However we will be looking for some experience of pattern design via Ravelry.

  • Like a job resume, aesthetics of the submission does matter. It helps us see your vision more clearly and shows your professionalism.

  • Our budget for these booklets are on the higher end; we hire professional photographers, models, editors, and allow designers to keep all rights. We make up for this by selling yarn! Many of our customers like simple yet interesting looking designs.

  • Testing will be organized by us using the platform ‘Slack’ where you will have access to your testing group. Make sure you are comfortable with this before submitting.
